What happens when I unsubscribe from an email with InboxPurge?
What Happens When You Unsubscribe from an Email with InboxPurge?
When you unsubscribe from an email using InboxPurge, the tool takes specific actions to stop unwanted emails and prevent future messages from the sender.
1. InboxPurge Sends an Unsubscribe Request
InboxPurge automates the unsubscribe process by detecting and following the sender's unsubscribe link.
- If the email contains a "List-Unsubscribe" header (standard for most newsletters and marketing emails), InboxPurge automatically submits the request to opt you out.
- If there is no unsubscribe header, InboxPurge attempts to follow any unsubscribe link found in the email.
2. (Optional) InboxPurge Deletes Existing Emails
When unsubscribing, you have the option to:
✅ Only unsubscribe and keep past emails.
✅ Unsubscribe & delete all existing emails from the sender.
- If you select the delete option, InboxPurge will locate all emails from that sender and move them to the Trash.
- If the "Exclude Important/Starred Emails" setting is enabled, those emails will not be deleted.
3. InboxPurge Blocks Persistent Senders
Some senders ignore unsubscribe requests and continue sending emails. As a precaution, InboxPurge automatically creates a Gmail filter to block emails from the sender.
- The filter ensures that any future emails from the sender are immediately moved to Trash.
- This prevents rogue senders from bypassing unsubscribe rules and cluttering your inbox.
4. Super Unsubscribe for Unlisted Senders
If a sender does not appear in the InboxPurge sidebar, you can still unsubscribe using Super Unsubscribe:
- Open an email from the sender.
- Click Super Unsubscribe in the InboxPurge menu.
- Follow the prompts to unsubscribe and delete past emails if needed.
